The Classic
French Twist
Step 1
Prep your hair
Brush through your hair to remove any tangles.
If you need extra hold, apply a light texturising spray for grip, especially if your hair is silky or fine.
Step 2
Gather & Twist
Collect all your hair at the nape of your neck, as if creating a low ponytail.
Begin twisting the ponytail upwards, guiding it towards the crown of your head.
As you twist, tuck the ends inside to create a smooth roll.
Step 3
Secure with the French Pin
Hold the twist in place with one hand.
With the other hand, insert your Mane Department Pin vertically at the top of the twist.
Flip the pin: Once inserted slightly, turn it horizontally and push it downward along the scalp to secure the twist in place.
Make sure the pin is nestled between the twist and the scalp for maximum hold.
Tip: Practice makes perfect! The more you use your pin, the easier it becomes to create this timeless style. Use light hairspray if needed for extra hold.
The Effortless Bun
Step 1
Prep your hair
Brush your hair to smooth out any tangles.
For extra volume, gently tease the crown or use a texturising spray for added grip.
Gather your hair into a low, mid, or high ponytail—depending on where you want your bun to sit.
Step 2
twist & form the bun
Twist your ponytail tightly for a sleek look or loosely for a softer, undone effect.
Wrap the twisted section around the base to form a bun.
Tuck the ends underneath the bun to keep it neat.
Step 3
secure with the pin
Hold the bun in place with one hand.
Take your Mane Department Pin and insert it at the edge of the bun, catching a small section of hair.
Flip the pin: Once inserted slightly, turn it towards the scalp and slide it through the bun, securing both the bun and the hair underneath.
Make sure the pin is positioned to balance and distribute the weight of the bun evenly.
Tip: For an undone, Parisian-inspired finish, pull out a few face-framing strands. For all-day hold, ensure the pin is woven through both the bun and scalp hair.
